Information on University-owned Experimental Farms
The University maintains experimental farms; the Faculty of Agriculture uses them for experiments, teaching and demonstrations. Experiments run here are research based; company data is also used in research and teaching. In addition, the experimental property is used to teach classes and do student seminars. These activities are generally closely correlated with the Faculty of Agriculture's teaching schedule.
The Reinshof experimental farm has been in operation since 1980 as a business unit for the field of crop science and is located directly in the Göttingen surroundings with its areas. The three cloister farms Reinshof, Marienstein and Deppoldshausen, the research farm Harste, as well as rented areas are cultivated (900 ha of arable land and 17 ha of grassland). The Reinshof experimental farm is primarily used for large-scale experiments and provides resources for research in crop science.
The Relliehausen experimental farm is located on the eastern edge of the Solling at Dassel and has been in operation since 1966 as an experimental farm for animal breeding, animal husbandry and biogas. The task of this business unit is to conduct teaching, research and demonstration projects for the Department of Animal Sciences. On the total of 160 ha of arable land and 160 ha of grassland, sheep, cattle, pigs and fish are kept, as well as biogas and district heating are produced.
The Lehr- und Versuchsstation (LVS) belongs to the Department of Crop Science and and conducts greenhouse experiments, field experiments and demonstration projects for this department. The area is specialized in small-scale technology and conducts around 40 experimental projects per year on the 70 ha.
