Proof of Required Language Proficiency
Students must be able to prove knowledge of at least three languages at the beginning of their studies.
Students must submit proof of language proficiency to the academic advisor (see contact details). They will then receive a written confirmation, which must be uploaded during registration on the application portal.
Students must demonstrate a C1 level (according to the Commune European Framework of Reference) in either German or English, and a B2 level in the other of these two languages. Contrary to the usual entry requirements, it is possible to begin this course with German proficiency at a B2 level (DSH-1), if German is not the student’s native language.
Regarding the third language, students must submit proof of proficiency at a B1 level in the case of a modern language, or the proficiency certificates for ancient languages, e.g. Latin (Graecum, Small Latinum, or the Hebraeicum).
Proof of Very Good German Proficiency (min. C1)
- German Higher Education Entrance Qualification (typically the Abitur)
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent at a German University
If these prerequisites are not met, then language proficiency must be proved through a passing grade in an internationally recognised exam, which was completed no more than two years before (upon) the receipt of the application for the course, or through equivalent achievement.
- German Language Exam for Higher Education Entrance (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH)) with an overall result of DSH-2
- Test for German as a Foreign Language (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (TestDaF)) with at least TDN 4 (TestDaF-Niveaustufe 4) in all four categories
- “Examination Section German” of the Assessment Test at a Preparatory College ("Prüfungsteil Deutsch" der Feststellungsprüfung an Studienkollegs)
Students are required to prove language proficiency at a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference in either German or English at the beginning of their studies.
Proof of Very Good English Proficiency (min. C1)
Proficiency can be proved through a passing grade in an internationally recognised exam, which was completed no more than two years before (upon) the receipt of the application for the course, or through equivalent achievement. This can be achieved through the following:
- UNIcert: at least Level III;
- Cambridge English Scale: at least 180 points;
- IELTS Academic („International English Language Testing System“): with at least Band 6.5;
- „Test of English as a Foreign Language”, internet-based test (TOEFL iBT): with at least 95 Punkte;
- Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): with at least 76 points;
- A study or work stay of at least two years in a country, where English is an official language;
- Proof in the higher education entrance qualification that at least level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference has been achieved.
Students are required to prove language proficiency at a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference in either German or English at the beginning of their studies.
Proof of Sufficient German Proficiency (min. B2)
Proof of sufficient proficiency in the German language can be demonstrated according to the exam regulations of the German Language Exam for Higher Education Entrance of Foreign Student Applicants (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerberinnen und Bewerber (DSH)) through a successful exam with an overall grade of DSH-1.
Students are required to prove language proficiency at a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference in either German or English at the beginning of their studies.
Proof of Sufficient English Proficiency (min. B2)
Proficiency can be proved through a passing grade in an internationally recognised exam, which was completed no more than two years before the receipt of the application for the course, or through equivalent achievement. This can be achieved through the following:
- UNIcert: at least Level II;
- Cambridge English Scale: at least 160 points;
- IELTS Academic („International English Language Testing System“): with at least Band 5.5;
- „Test of English as a Foreign Language”, internet-based test (TOEFL iBT): with at least 81 Punkte;
- Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): with at least 59 points;
- A study or work stay of at least one years in a country, where English is an official language;
- Proof in the higher education entrance qualification that at least level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference has been achieved.
Students are required to prove language proficiency at a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference in either German or English at the beginning of their studies.
Proof of Proficiency in a Third Language
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in another language with at least a B1 level of the CEFR or with a Hebraicum, Graecum, or Small Latinum exam. If the candidate does not already have proficiency through a native language other than German or English, then proof can be provided through:
- A passing grade in an internationally recognised exam, which was completed no more than two years before the receipt of the application for the course;
- A minimum of five years of school classes;
- A minimum of three years of school classes leading up to the completion of high school, with a minimum of four hours class per week.
