Opening times during the holiday break

From Saturday, 23 December 2023, to Monday, 1 January 2024, many establishments will only have a limited range of services or will be taking their winter break. Many stores in Göttingen will also be closed on the public holidays. You can find an overview of the changed opening hours and possible points of contact in this list.
Göttingen State and University Library (SUB)
All locations of the Göttingen State and University Library will be closed from Sunday, 24 December to Tuesday, 26 December 2023, as well as on Sunday, 31 December 2023, and Monday, 1 January, 2024. On Saturday, 23 December and between Christmas and New Year, the Central Library, the Medical Library and the Learning and Study Building (LSG) will be open between 10:00 and 20:00. All other locations will remain closed from 23 December 2023 up to and including 1 January 2024.

Dining halls and cafeterias
Almost all canteens and cafeterias will be closed from Friday, 22 December 2023 to Sunday, 7 January, 2024. Only the Mensa am Turm will be open between between Christmas and New Year’s. From Monday, 2 January 2024, the Lunchbox, Zentralmensa and Café Central will be open. Please note: Mensa am Turm will close again from 2 to 7 January 2024.

Office of Student Affairs (Studienzentrale)
The Office of Student Affairs will be closed from Saturday, 23 December 2023 up to and including Friday, 5 January 2024. The Infoline will be available for information the first week of January from Monday, 2 January to Thursday, 4 January 2024 between 9:00 and 16:00 and on Friday, 5 January from 9:00 to 13:00 by phone (0551) 39-113 or e-mail infoline-studium@uni-goettingen.de.

IT hotline
Employees who have to work during the shutdown cannot use the IT Department’s service desk during this time. The service desk will not be staffed from Friday, 22 December 2023 at 12:00 until Tuesday, 2 January 2024 at 7:00.
Forum Wissen
Our Forum Wissen will be closed on 24 and 25 December 2023, as well as on 31 December 2023 and 1 January 2024. On the other days, you can visit the Forum Wissen during the usual opening hours between 10:00 and 18:00.

Sports
The sports programme will continue until Wednesday, 20 December 2023, and will start again at the beginning of lectures on Monday, 8 January 2024. You can do sports in the RoxX and Fiz between Christmas and New Year’s; the indoor swimming pool will reopen on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Supermarkets
Please note that supermarkets and all other stores will be closed on Monday, 25 December and Tuesday, 26 December 2023 (Christmas Days) and Monday, 1 January 2024 (New Year’s Day). Some bakeries, petrol stations and kiosks will be open during the holidays.
