Professor Ivo Feußner at Göttingen University receives European Lipid Science Award
Professor Ivo Feußner at the University of Göttingen, whose expertise is in plant biochemistry, has received the European Lipid Science Award 2023. The European Federation for the Science and Technology of Lipids (Euro Fed Lipid) awarded him this prize for his work on the synthesis and function of plant lipids as energy stores and signalling molecules. The award was presented in September at the association's annual European meeting in Poznań and is considered one of the highest honours in the field of lipid science.
In his research, Feußner investigates how plants form fats in their seeds and which fats play a role as signals in the plant's stress response. He not only analyses the function of plant oils through a combination of genetic and biochemical approaches, but also develops analytical methods to measure the formation and occurrence of individual fat molecules in the plant cell.
Born in 1964, Feußner has been Professor of Plant Biochemistry at the University of Göttingen since 2002. He is a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig, a member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony and a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Among other honours, he was awarded the Habilitation Prize of the Ernst Schering Research Foundation and the Terry Galliard Medal.
