Statement by the University of Göttingen on the Bild newspaper’s reporting

"Over the past two years, it has become clearer than ever just how important scientific freedom and science communication are for the continuing survival of our society. Without the many years of basic research and constant new assessments from our researchers, we wouldn’t have anywhere near as good an understanding of the pandemic and its consequences as we do today.

I am deeply grateful to all our colleagues who do research in this field and who, despite all the hostility, continue to share their knowledge in the public arena. The German newspaper Bild’s most recent reporting crosses every boundary of social decency and reveals grotesque ignorance of the democratic processes in our country by the lack of objectivity and exaggeration in its reporting."
