Press release: Senate elects new full-time Vice President

Dr Valérie Schüller will be responsible for Finance and Human Resources

Dr Valérie Schüller will become the new full-time Vice President for Finance and Human Resources at the University of Göttingen. The 44-year-old was recommended by the Joint Finding Committee consisting of members of the Senate and the University Foundation Council. The University Senate elected her by a large majority. The Senate and the University Foundation Council discussed the recommendation of the Search Commission in a joint meeting. The University Foundation Council has already unanimously confirmed the Senate's proposal. Schüller is expected to take office next spring. Her term of office will be six years, followed by eight years if re-elected. She succeeds Dr Holger Schroeter, who held the office from 2015 and moved to the University of Heidelberg as Chancellor in September of this year.

"Dr Valérie Schüller has the best credentials to successfully manage and further develop the two important divisions of Finance and Human Resources in the coming years," said Dr Wilhelm Krull, Chairman of the Finding Committee and the University Foundation Council. University President Professor Ulrike Beisiegel said: "I am delighted to welcome Dr Valérie Schüller to the Executive Board as a new full-time member."

Valérie Schüller, born in 1974, studied law at the University of Mainz. In 2002, she completed her legal clerkship with the second state examination in Law, and at the end of 2003, she finished her studies in media law at the University of Mainz with a Master of Laws (LL.M.). In 2006, she received her doctorate in Law and Economics at the University of Mainz. From 2005 to 2016, Schüller was managing director of the Department of Law and Economics, with a break in 2011/2012 when she worked in the team for the Excellence Initiative of the University of Mainz. In addition, she was a senator for several years, a member of the Budget and Structural Committee and a member of the Statutes Committee of the University of Mainz. In 2016, she moved to Bingen Technical University of Applied Sciences as Chancellor, and since September 2017 she has been Chancellor of Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
