From a total of 155 proposals to the Ideas Competition for Students 2008, almost half (49%) of all the ideas were in the category Study requests/ Offers/ Content and Structures. These included proposals concerning for example amendments to the study and examination regulations, research programmes for students and multidisciplinary modules. In addition, they also concerned the equipment of lecture halls and its administration, and resource issues for lecturers, e.g. coordination and the number of resits for written exams or the use and promotion of new technologies on courses.
Twenty-two percent of the contributions covered topics relating to the Advisory/Mentoring and Information Services; amongst others there were ideas for the improvement of the Internet platforms of the University of Göttingen, services relating to the libraries and proposals regarding the need for mentoring, especially on BA and MA degree courses.
There were practical ideas for the Quality of Teaching (8%) in particular regarding course evaluation and associated measures requested by the student body. Moreover there were suggestions for the improvement of communications between lecturers and students.
The category Social Aspects and Miscellaneous at 21% reflected positive changes affecting the 2008 Ideas Competition. This included ideas about student campus media, potential energy-saving options at the university or to improve the image and identification of the university from the perspective of students.
