Lectors' Insights:
Teaching Practical English Skills, Then and Now
Since the University's foundation in 1737, practical English was taught at what later became the English Department. Knowing the language, its rules and subtexts, but also being able to use it correctly in a variety of contexts is the backbone to studying and teaching English alike. In 1984, seven lectors were listed amongst the members of staff; today their number has gone down to four. In the video below, Joe Pfändner and Joachim Tuschinsky discuss what is still the same, what has changed and where teaching practical English skills is headed in future.
