The Economic Institute for Small Businesses and Skilled Trades at the University of Göttingen (ifh Göttingen) has been the center of excellence for economic issues relating to skilled trades since 1953. It produces scientifically sound analyses and expert reports based on a transdisciplinary research approach. This approach links economic research with small and medium-sized enterprises and institutional actors and puts the scientific findings and recommendations for action gained in this way into practice.



The ifh Göttingen pursues economic issues relating to small and medium-sized enterprises with a focus on the following topics:

  • Labor market

  • Regional economicsk

  • Sustainability & energy

  • Digitalization & artificial intelligence
