PhD Position in Religious Studies

At the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the Faculty of Theology in the Department of Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology has a vacancy as of 01.11.2024 or next later for one

PhD student (f/m/d)


with 50% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 19,9 hours/week) for a limited period of 36 months. The salary is paid according to pay group 13 TV-L.

A thematic focus on the Indian subcontinent is desired, as well as the consideration of gender issues and interreligious dynamics, for example in relation to Islam and Hinduism. The ability to work with primary sources in at least one relevant non-European language is essential. In addition to writing a dissertation in Religious Studies, the responsibilities include teaching the Religious Studies tutorial on academic writing. Relevant previous experience is desirable.

Prerequisites:

  • An above-average university degree in Religious Studies.
  • Willingness to integrate into the intercultural research environment of the chair and to participate in general tasks and academic self-administration.
  • Writing a dissertation in Religious Studies in English or German.
  • Very good written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of at least one relevant non-European source language.
  • Ability to teach in German. Knowledge or experience in the design of barrier-free teaching (meth-odology & didactics) is advantageous.
