Göttingen Criminal Justice Lab

In cooperation with the Göttingen judiciary (local and regional courts and the public prosecutor's office), the Göttingen prisons, the Göttingen forensic psychiatric facility and the Göttingen police, we are organizing the “Göttingen Criminal Justice Lab” for the first time starting in the winter semester 2025/26. As part of this event, a permanent dialog between practice and academia is to be established with the involvement of students in the sense of research-related teaching.

At the beginning of the seminar, practice-relevant topics are determined together with the collaboration partners. Two students at a time then work on a topic area in close cooperation with one of the collaboration partners and under the close supervision of the chair. The aim is also to provide practical insights into the topics at the collaboration partners (work shadowing at courts and the public prosecutor's office, in the penal system and forensic psychiatric facility as well as with the police). Towards the end of the semester, the results are presented and discussed with the collaboration partners.

The aim is to develop scientifically sound, legally viable and at the same time practical solutions for current challenges in judicial, law enforcement and police work.
