Absence from an examination due to illness / Extension of the submission deadline for a written module examination or final thesis

If you, as a student, would like to notify the withdrawal from an examination or an extension of the processing time in connection with an examination, the procedure depends on the type of examination:

    1. In the event of withdrawal from or absence from a written or oral examination

If you are no longer able to deregister from the examination because the deadline has passed, you must submit a medical certificate to the examination office without delay – that is, within three working days – stating the expected duration of your illness. For this purpose, have the "paper printout for your own records" given to you when you visit the doctor. This paper printout is still necessary because, as far as students are concerned, the university cannot retrieve electronic sickness notifications from the health insurance companies. Scans or summaries from health insurance apps are not accepted.

    • Log into eCampus and access the examination office forms under the "Other Services" tab. Then select "Erkrankung - Rücktritt von Prüfungsleistungen (Illness - Withdrawal from examination)".
    • Fill out the form, upload a scan of your medical certificate (the upper half, i.e. without diagnosis) and click on "Send". The original oft the certificate must be retained and presented only upon request by the examination office.

The application is now received by the advisor responsible for the subject in question at the examination office. If the requirements are met, your notice of illness will be filed with your exam registration so that the non-attendance does not count as a failed attempt. You will be informed of the decision by e-mail.
For more information on using the form "Erkrankung - Rücktritt von Prüfungsleistungen (Illness - Withdrawal from examination)", see this Wiki link.

      2. Extension of the deadline for submitting a written module examination or final thesis

      a) due to illness or for an objective reason

      • Log into eCampus and access the examination office forms under the "Other Services" tab. Then select "Extension of the deadline for final theses (all) and written examinations (Law, Theology, Social Sciences and Philosophy only), e.g. in the event of illness" ("Fristverlängerung Abschlussarbeiten (alle) und schriftl. Prüfungsleistungen (nur Jura, Theologie, Sowi und Phil), z.B. bei Erkrankung").
      • Fill out the form, upload a scan of your medical certificate (the top half, i.e. without the diagnosis) or, where there is an objective reason, the relevant supporting documentation (e.g. an email from the examiners), and click on "Send". If this is a sick note, you must keep the original medical certificate and only submit it when requested to do so by the examination office.
      • Please note that examiners only receive an automatic notification of an extension in the case of final theses, but not for module examinations. Therefore, if your extension relates to a written module examination, please inform your examiner of the new submission deadline.

      b) in case of a block internship on the Master of Education programme in a subject offered by the Faculty of Humanities

      • When completing a block internship, Master of Education students are entitled to an extension of the processing time for written examinations.
      • The entitlement arises from Section 5 (5) of the Examination and Study Regulations for the Master of Education programme. Consequently, the processing time for a module examination in this degree programme is extended according to the proportion of a block internship at schools that falls within this processing time after notification by the candidate. Proof of the duration of and participation in the block internship must be provided. This does not apply to written examinations (Klausuren), oral forms of examination (including oral components of coursework), written or text-based work to be completed in the course of a seminar and the Master's thesis.
Prüfungsleistungen (nur Jura, Theologie, Sowi und Phil), z.B. bei Erkrankung") and upload a scan of a certificate by Dr. Jörg Behrendt (ZEWIL). The Faculty of Humanities processes extensions for modules in these subjects: Chinese, German, English, French, History, Greek, Latin, Philosophy, Russian, Spanish, Values and Norms.
      • Please note that examiners will not be automatically notified of the extension due to your internship. You should therefore inform them personally of the new submission deadline.
