Media Literacy
Media literacy has become just as an essential part of our basic education as being able to read and write, and is necessary to effect a more active and purposeful interaction with more modern forms of media.
At ZESS, there are diverse courses to help students improve their media literacy; students should consider the following pointers in order to strengthen their learning process in these courses:
- work constructively in a 'workshop' atmosphere, in which learning "with head, heart and hand" takes place.
- work as much as possible with free programmes and services such that you are in a position to continue working long after your course has ended.
- work with externally-based teachers who will be able to provide a professional insight into the various media environments in the working world.
- make your work accessible to the public. We highly appreciate our co-operation with our media partners, who help to fulfil precisely this purpose - Public Access Media Project Centre Kassel, City Radio Göttingen, Uni Göttingen Press Office, Varsity Seitenwechsels ('change of sides'), uniMedien, independent platforms such as Zesspress Channel and Freiraum.
While courses may be taken individually, we recommend combining them in order to gain more out of your learning. To support this, upon successful conclusion of a certain number and combination of courses, students may sit for one of our certificate examinations.
