Public lecture with panel discussion on 10 September 2019

"Why is Brexit so difficult?“ – the University of Göttingen invites you to a public lecture followed by a panel discussion on Tuesday 10 September 2019. The British political scientist Professor Simon Usherwood from the University of Surrey will first try to formulate answers to this central question. Afterwards, participants from Great Britain and Germany will discuss the practical consequences of Brexit on a personal level - such as the difficulties of changing citizenship and the question of what this means for one's own identity. The event begins at 19:00 in the Adam von Trott Hall in the Alte Mensa (Wilhelmsplatz 3, 37073 Göttingen). The lecture will be in English, the panel discussion in German.

For the past three years, the withdrawal from the European Union (EU) has dominated British politics. However, until today, just a few weeks before the - probable - end of British EU membership, neither Westminster nor Brussels has a clear idea of how "Brexit" is actually going to be implemented. The public event is part of the two-day international workshop "Brexit: Causes, Conduct, Consequences" organised by Professor Andreas Busch from the Institute of Political Science at the University of Göttingen in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen.
