Press release: Top 100 in the Shanghai Ranking

(pug) The University of Göttingen has succeeded in retaining its dominance in the Shanghai Ranking. In the current Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2018 (also known as the Shanghai Ranking), Göttingen is placed fourth nationwide, ranking 34th in Europe and 99th worldwide. That puts Göttingen among the four German universities, which made it into the top 100. The ARWU primarily rates how universities perform in academic research.

The data of more than 1500 universities were evaluated for the rankings. In particular, the quality of the universities was measured by how many publications and citations in top tier international journals were listed in their primary subjects. The survey also considered the relationship between research performance and the number of employees.
