Signing science for everyone
Sharing our knowledge and making it available for society lies at the heart of our work. Therefore, an integral part of our work as researchers is the transfer of knowledge and an open discussion of our results. We frequently present the results of our studies at Deaf community centers and public meetings where we usually sign our presentations. We moreover publish the results of our studies in journals like ‚DAS ZEICHEN' which is a German journal focusing on sign language and Deaf culture. Thomas Finkbeiner and Nina-Kristin Meister have also established their working group "WissensWert|DGS" (KnowledgeValue|DGS) and are involved in a wide range of knowledge transfer activities - such as the first bimodal-bilingual book series "Deutsche Gebärdensprache und Deaf Communites" (German Sign Language and Deaf Communities), the Sprachkalender DGS (DGS language calendar) and her contributions to the Deaf Community's magazine "Life InSight".
We work together with many deaf native signers and volunteer study participants, and it is important to us to share the results with the Deaf Community. In addition, materials for DGS teaching are to be further developed in the long term in collaboration with DGS lecturers.
