These events have always been free in order to reduce barriers for people to attend and to encourage participation and topics of local significance.

The Responsible Fashion Series event in 2025 took place on the West Coast of the United States of America. This region is leading the way in implementing new United States legislation and research in circularity systems. This is where we were pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion practices and exchanged insights into the evolving landscape where technology and sustainability converge to shape the future of the apparel industry.

PART A: Monday 29th to Friday 30th October 2025 Sustainable Cotton Farm tour
The event began with a tour of a sustainable cotton farm in San Joaquin Valley, California, offering a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at the various aspects of cotton production. Participants met with farmers and scientists, saw cotton being harvested and ginned, and learned about the practices of Cleaner Cotton™. The tour was organised by the Sustainable Cotton Farm Project.

PART B: Friday 31st October to Monday 3rd, November in Los Angeles
The second part of the event brought participants to Los Angeles where there is an active sector of professionals and organizations focused on sustainability initiatives to hear keynote speakers from the fashion industry and paper presentations from colleagues at the ASU FIDM. The Los Angeles campus of the Arizona State University is located in the Fashion District, where you met faculty and toured the fashion studios, textile testing labs, and museums. Visits to factories and designer studios enhanced our experience of this major manufacturing hub.

PART C: Monday 3rd to Friday 7th November in Phoenix
The group moved to Phoenix on Monday 3rd, where it participated in workshops and demonstrations at Arizona State University’s Fashion Studios, Fashion Fabrication Lab, and Wearable Technology Lab, continuing the work on paper presentations and exhibitions. At this location it was possible to experience native crafts and traditions and a visit to the Heard Museum, a vibrant museum dedicated to Native American art.
