Inclusive teaching is often about making small, meaningful adjustments that are both attainable and sustainable. To support this, colleagues at the University of Groningen, one of our partners in the ENLIGHT network, have developed ”The Inclusive Teacher”, a flexible, self-paced e-learning course. This programme focuses on inclusive course design, pedagogy, assessment, and group work, equipping academic teachers with practical strategies to make student diversity a positive resource for teaching and learning.
In this two-day online exchange between the University of Groningen and the University of Göttingen (with up to 10 participants from each institution), academic teachers will work through selected units of “The Inclusive Teacher”. The workshop begins with a joint online introduction, after which participants engage in synchronous self-study to work with material of the introductory module. In addition, after each self-study phase, participants meet in small, mixed break-out groups to discuss their insights, share experiences across institutional contexts and learn from each other’s practices. Over the two days, this cycle of self-study and discussion will repeat at least twice. On the second day, we begin the workshop online. Around lunchtime, participants will meet for an on-site experiential activity designed to refresh perspectives and deepen reflection.
Upon completion, participants will receive a digital badge from the University of Groningen, recognising their commitment to inclusive teaching as well as a certificate of attendance from the University of Göttingen.

Learning objectives:
Participants

  • engage with the “Inclusive Teacher” framework and understand key principles and practical approaches to inclusive teaching;
  • share strategies, experiences, and challenges with colleagues from the University of Groningen;
  • critically reflect on inclusive pedagogy, course design, assessment, and group work and how these can be adapted to diverse student populations in their respective teaching contexts;
  • articulate what inclusivity means for their own teaching practice and develop concrete next steps for implementing inclusive teaching in their own courses.

Venue:
The sessions on October 20 will take place fully online.
We will begin the workshop on October 21 online. At 12:45 o'clock we will meet on/close to the central campus in Göttingen for an on-site activity.
You will receive further information on the meeting details before the workshop.
